Richard Jones

Before becoming a psychoanalytic psychotherapist I was a social worker. I worked with children having difficulties with their emotional development and mental health. I joined the Leicestershire Dynamic Psychotherapy Service of the NHS inĀ 1980 and trained as a psychoanalytic psychotherapist with the South Trent Training. I qualified in 1986 and continued to work for the NHS.

During this period I was a training therapist, supervisor and tutor for the South Trent Training as well as being a member of the Training Committee. I was a Consultant Adult Psychotherapist from 1990 to 2006 and the Clinical Director of the psychotherapy service from 2002 until establishing my private practice in 2007.

I am an experienced psychotherapist and also offer clinical supervision. I am approved as a training supervisor for the South Trent Training and the West Midlands Institute of Psychotherapy. My current practice also includes consulting for the NHS in services offering psychological therapy for people with personality difficulties. I have written papers on clinical supervision and psychotherapy with people who are suicidal.

I am registered as a psychoanalytic psychotherapist with the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy, abiding by its Code of Ethics and Practice and I have a current DBS certificate.

Psychotherapy involves a relationship of developing trust. This can help us to acknowledge and work on those personal difficulties and experiences that isolate us from other people and can undermine our confidence in ourselves. Becoming more able to face our underlying experience – including those aspects of ourselves that we are uncomfortable with – we can free ourselves to live more fully in tune with our underlying nature. It is important to give a place to all that we are, not just the experiences that have both enhanced and restricted us in the past but also our underlying potential, which psychotherapy can helps us to realise more fully.
